Sun Shots

One of my favorite things to photograph is the sun. Always has been, even when I was using my pocket point and shoot. So, now I feel pretty proud to say that I know exactly how to get the perfect sun pictures I want. They make excellent screen-savors!

What you need know:
Close that aperture! Try closing to at least 20.
Adjust you shutter speed to compensate for the lost light.

Got some additional advise? I would love to hear it!!

A Beginner's Guide to DOF

I never did like reading tutorials. So, in sense I've been wanting to master my depth of field skills, today I grabbed a subject from my kitchen and started clicking. I worked with manual and auto focus settings and tried different focal lengths and aperture settings until I felt fairly certain I could reproduce the results I want anytime. What did I find out?

Open your aperture as much as you can.
Stand back and zoom in.
Or stand close and zoom out.
Turn your auto focus off and manually focus on the point you want sharpest.

Well obviously I'm not an expert, but with every click I learn more. Have some advice? Sound off below!

Meet Baby Jace and Mama Ashley. Jace was brought into this world 1 month ago.

This was my first newborn shoot. Due to the weather, we needed to shoot indoors, which was a totally new experience for me!

Make sure to welcome Jace in the comments below, and have a Happy Valentine's Day!

What season should you choose for your portraits?

So, I hear it all the time. In fact, I've been guilty of thinking the same thing. Why is it that we all want to wait till Spring or Fall to take our pictures? It may have something to do with the colors, and it definitely has something to do with the perfect weather. But really it seems most people think that their pictures wont look as good in the winter or summer. Well here's proof that if you can stand the cold of winter and the hot of summer, you can have AMAZING pictures taken anytime of the year!

Spring photos are full of life!
Fall photos bring out interesting colors.
Summer photos send good relaxing vibes.
Winter photos will bring out your inner child.
So buddle up and head outside to explore this record breaking weather we are having now. If you open your mind to new ideas, you will find beauty where you least expect it!

Winter Photo Walk

I should warn you, I'm not Brandon.

Although, I am related to him. Well, only by marriage.

My name is Missie. If you've worked with Brandon before, you have seen me either at your photo shoot helping you pose or in his pictures as his prized model. He is teaching me everything he knows so I can take my love for photography to the next level.

Today, Brandon couldn't make the drive to the Fort to help me learn. So, I went out with Michelle on a photo walk to practice on our own. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, which is what we needed after all this harsh winter weather we've experienced. We went to Chaffee Crossing to attempted our first snow shoot. I like to visit the Janet Huckabee Nature Center often in the Spring. However, the feel today was unlike any of my previous visits. Winter has a quite, relaxing effect.
